Holistic massage may include classical Swedish techniques such as effleurage; petrissage, kneading, friction and wringing; percussive techniques such as hacking, cupping and beating and passive joint mobilisation.
Swedish massage is the most commonly known type of massage in the West. It’s the foundation for other types of Western massage, including sports massage, deep tissue massage and aromatherapy massage, and is based on the Western concepts of anatomy and physiology. A holistic massage can be slow or vigorous and the pressure can be firm or light. It is important to let the therapist know your preference so that the massage can be adapted accordingly.
